Britain is responsible for some of the first films ever made, dating back to 1888.The film industry has been going from strength to strength ever since and has contributed to some of the greatest achievements in cinematic history. The first cinema was Regent Street Cinema in London, which opened in 1896. From modest beginnings come remarkable things – a total of 276 British films were made in 2016, with seven of these made as collaborations. These films include The Jungle Book and My Scientology Movie, with the total up from 253 in 2015.
